Mother Clelia Merloni, Foundress of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, teaches us that "Education is a work of love" and that this mission demands constancy and witness, openness and dialogue, service to others who are created in the image and likeness of God (Gen. 2: 27), with an awareness that we are always learning. The Apostles are called to be prepared to respond boldly and courageously, and with excellence, to the challenges that are present to us in the field of education in the 21st century.
Being a truly “Catholic” school is a commitment undertaken from the very beginning. With her zealous heart, Mother Clelia wished always to be in union with the teachings of the Church. She envisioned education as a "Work of Love" and a means to promote the holistic development of the person. "Education is among the principal works of charity to which the Congregation of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is dedicated", said the Foundress.
Mother Clelia did not develop a pedagogical theory, nor did she establish an educational method, but it was her own experience, along with her directives given to the sisters who were teachers, which attests to her comprehensive vision as well as her determination to have confidence in the human person.
In addition to the educational works belonging to the Congregation, the Apostle Educator carries out her mission in diocesan and parochial schools with the same spirit of love as did Mother Clelia. She is committed to sharing the Love of the Heart of Jesus with her students, their families, and her colleagues.
The Apostles work in all levels of education. From early childhood to high schools and colleges, they minister to over forty thousand students.
Sensitive to the needs of their sisters and brothers, the Apostles also carry out their mission in schools for those with special needs.
